Abbey House Museum

The Abbey House was originally the gatehouse of Kirkstall Abbey, founded in 1152. When Henry VIII dissolved the monasteries the gatehouse has been a farmhouse and also the home of the Butler family, the owners of Kirkstall Forge. In 1926 Leeds City Council bought Abbey House.

The museum features includes a great collections of objects of the Leeds life, Castellow's the chemist, Sagar's the ironmongers and the pipemakers in the streets of Georgian and Victorian Leeds all recreated. There are treasures in the toy gallery such as the Victorian dolls' house and new pennies can be changed to old to play the slot machines.
