Chester is located in the North West of England, close to the England-Wales border. It is around 20 miles from Liverpool and 40 miles from Manchester, meaning the area is well served by all forms of transport links.

By train
Chester is well linked to the National Rail Network, with Chester Station just a short walk from the city centre. The main routes include links with London, Manchester, Liverpool, Holyhead, and many more.

Chester is on the North Wales Coast line, over which trains starting at Crewe and Manchester run to Holyhead and Llandudno;

Chester is a southern terminus on Merseyrail's Wirral Line which provides direct trains via Birkenhead to Liverpool. A second line runs between Chester and Manchester - the journey is the scenic route in all senses of the word.

By car
Chester is linked directly to the M53 motorway, which allows access to the nationwide motorway network also you can reach Chester by the eastern end of the A55, which becomes the M53, which crosses the M56. London is approx. 200 miles by road, Birmingham approx. 90 miles, Manchester approx. 30 miles, Liverpool approx. 20 miles.

By coach
Most national coaches stop in Chester. Chester coach station in the city centre has now been closed. The coaches stop at a bus stop on Vicars Lane, opposite the Visitor Centre near the Roman Amphitheatre.

By Air
Both Liverpool and Manchester have large International airports offering flights to destinations all over the world. Both are easily accessible from Chester, with excellent road and rail links.

By Ferry
There are passenger ferry ports close by at several locations. You can travel to and from Ireland form Holyhead (Anglesey, North Wales), Birkenhead (Wirral) and Liverpool.
