Volks Railway

The Volks Railway is the oldest public electric railway in the world, opened on 4 August 1883 by Magnus Volk. Originally the track stretched for about a quarter of a mile on a shingle embankment from the Swimming Arch to the Chain Pier.

Today the railway can carry up to eighty passengers and runs along a length of the seafront of the English seaside resort of Brighton between terminal stations at Aquarium (adjacent to the Palace Pier) and Black Rock (adjacent to Brighton Marina), with an intermediate station and depot at Paston Place.
