Merseyside Maritime Museum

The Merseyside Maritime Museum is in an old warehouse, part of the Albert Dock on the banks of the River Mersey. Opened in 1980 provides an informative and educational guide to Liverpool's seafaring history and displays merchant navies.

The Museum's collections reflect the international importance of Liverpool as a gateway to the world, including Liverpool's role in the transatlantic slave trade and emigration. The Maritime Archive and Library contains one of the finest collections of merchant shipping records in the UK.

The museum depicts the importance of Liverpool as a gateway to the world and shows the history of the seven million emigrants who left the Mersey between 1830 and 1930 for the New World including its importance to the transatlantic slave trade, the merchant navy and the titanic. From slavers to luxury liners, submarine hunters to passenger ferries, discover Liverpool's central role in centuries at sea.
